In order to keep our team and our environment protected, Global Collision Center utilizes a water-based paint from the chemical company, BASF, to eliminate exposing harmful chemicals into the air and within our body shop.

Solvent-Based Paint vs. Water-Based Paint

Solvent-based paint, sometimes referred to as "oil-based" or "alkyd," contain a significantly high level of organic solvents.

These solvents produce a strong odor and may be hazardous to human health and the environment. The solvents facilitate the paint's application, drying, and formation.

​During the application and drying, the solvent evaporates releasing Volatile Organic Compound (VOCs), which creates a toxic and negative impact on the Earth's atmosphere. Ideally, a dry paint film should no longer contain solvent.
With the advancement of technology, water-based paint, or "acrylic emulsions," are beginning to replace these harmful solvents.
